Swimming Workouts for Beginners

People have many ways to get a good workout in order to be healthier and lose weight in the process. Swimming has become an excellent option that is gaining popularity due to how demanding it is without having to force the body into any kind of high impact exercise regime. The most important thing is for beginners to learn the best swimming workouts they can perform if they want to use swimming as their main exercise to stay healthy and get rid of those extra pounds.

The gear you need for your swimming workouts

Before you even decide to get to a pool, you need to go shopping for some important items.  There is very basic gear that you need to keep in mind for any kind of pool activity, and this is a list of essentials:

  • Goggles
  • Swim cap
  • Kickboard
  • Fins
  • Paddles
  • Towel

Once you have all of the basic gear, you can head out to a pool that you find convenient for you. Some people have pools at home, and this makes the process extremely easy, but most people need to find a local pool that they can visit. If this is the case, look for one that allows access on a daily basis for a reasonable monthly cost.

The workouts for beginners

A good beginner workout could be to swim an entire lap with freestyle. Then you can do an entire lap with backstroke and a third and final lap with the kickboard. Remember that a lap is when you swim to one end of the pool and swim back to the starting point.

Another great swimming workout for beginners is to swim 5 minutes with one style and do not stop until the timer ends. If the timer ends before you reach any end pf the pool, just make sure that you finish that distance. It is not good to stop a workout in the middle of a pool.

A more advanced workout can be to do as many laps as you can within 20 minutes but don’t work yourself out until exhaustion. Just do this in a relaxed manner and you should be able to handle 20 minutes. Swimming can be very intense, but you can also make it a relaxing experience.

Teaching kids the value of swimming

Swimming is a very healthy workout that everyone should start to engage as early in life as possible. This is going to be easier when a person can take swimming lessons at a young age, and it will give them the opportunity to learn proper techniques in order to maximize their workouts.

One of the most common problems that people face when they are trying to work out is to choose a workout program that they can enjoy. This is going to be very important because it will allow the person to stick to their workouts, and this consistency is going to help them achieve optimal results.

Due to the recent events around the COVID-19, and the City of Toronto closing community and recreational centre, we are taking extra precautions to keep everyone safe.

 

We have made the decision to temporarily close as of March 16, 2020, until April 5, 2020, and our spring session will resume on Monday, April 6, 2020.

 

What does this mean for our students?

 

The winter session will finish on schedule, and all classes on March 15 will run as normal.

The spring session will run from April 6 until July 12, 2020.

For those who cannot extend their swimming classes for the two weeks in July, we will offer makeup classes within the session.

For those who do become ill and cannot attend our spring session, the spring session will be credited into their accounts, to be used for later sessions.
