Swimming Programs For Kids

Swimming Programs

Aquastream offers four major swim programs and an additional program for special needs children. These programs are based on a swimmer’s ability and age, ranging from infants to teens.

To ensure each swimmer is placed at the appropriate skill level for their age, we determine in which program they will begin only after a complimentary 30-minute assessment. From there, children progress through each level as they meet the requirements to master the associated swimming and safety skills. These skills are thoroughly taught, monitored, and assessed by our Lifesaving Society-certified instructors, who keep caregivers informed of the swimmer’s progress along the way.

All of Aquatream’s swimming lessons take place in our state-of-the-art pool facility. Filled with salt water and heated to and maintained at 32C°, we employ the strictest standards of water quality control to create a safe and comfortable experience for swimmers and their caregivers.

Swimming Programs Near Me

Aquastream has two locations, serving the communities of Barrie and Vaughan. At each of our convenient locations, you have access to advanced swim programs, Lifesaving Society-certified instructors, and newly-constructed pool facilities adhering to the highest standards of water quality and maintenance.

Swimming lessons begin with the Parents & Tots program, serving infants between 6 and 30 months as well as their caregivers. Children aged 3-5 years can begin in the Toddlers program, followed by the Fun Kids program for ages 5-10 years, and then moving to the Pro Kids program for ages 10-13 years. Aquastream also offers a program for special needs children, which can begin as early as 3 years.

Upon successful completion of each of these swim programs, swimmers are provided a certificate for their achievement. As they move through each level and into a new program, not only are their swimming skills vastly improved, but their confidence in and outside of the pool is also strengthened – and this is where Aquastream truly makes a difference in the lives of those whom we serve.

Swimming Lesson Levels

The details of each of our programs and how they are taught is what sets Aquastream apart from other swim schools. We’ve carefully designed each program to not just meet, but go well beyond, what’s required from contemporary swimming standards.

Our Parents & Tots program is designed for infants between the ages of 6 and 30 months along with their caregivers. In these classes, infants will learn basic skills such as buoyancy, back and front floats, as well as shallow water entry and exit. With regularity and consistent attendance, caregivers report increased peace of mind that their infant is competent and safe in and around water. We offer these 30-minute classes on a weekly basis and with a student to teacher ratio of 6:1.

The Toddlers swim program is intended for children between the ages of 3 and 5 years, with flexible entry and exit options based on your swimmer’s age, ability, and progress. The program spans four different levels, beginning with basic skills such as opening the eyes in the water and front and back floats, all the way up to distance swimming and coordinated kicking. This is where we begin to build confidence in the water. Toddler classes are offered on a weekly basis for 45-minutes each and are taught on a 3:1 student to teacher ratio.

From our Toddlers program, children can progress to Fun Kids. Offered for children between 5 and 10 years of age, there are five unique levels in this program. The skills learned range from arm and leg coordination to independent distance swimming and learning the basics of specific swimming strokes. At this age, children are also capable of understanding water safety skills, which is an invaluable tool in their progression. Aquastream holds 45-minute Fun Kids classes on a weekly basis with a 3:1 student to teacher ratio.

In the Pro Kids program, swimmers truly begin to blossom into the confident swimmer we develop here at Aquastream. For children and teens between the ages of 10 and 13 years, our instructors begin to take a more individual approach at each of these three levels, developing the specific skills needed by each swimmer as well as endurance and cardiovascular strength. Swimmers will start to perfect strokes like the breast stroke and side stroke as well as move into more advanced strokes. These 45-minute lessons are held on a weekly basis with a 3:1 student to teacher ratio.

At Aquastream, we believe all children should have access to the benefits of learning to swim. That’s why we offer a Special Needs swim program for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder as young as 3 years old. The main focus of this program is to teach water safety to children with different learning styles. These 45-minute weekly lessons take place on 1:1 ratio with certified instructors, to provide the utmost care and comfort to special needs children.

ISR swim lessons

ISR swimming lessons, or the Infant Swimming Resource, are infant survival swim lessons for children between the ages of 6 months and 6 years old. Infant swimming taught through the methodology of ISR can help your infant or toddler save themselves from an accidental fall into deep water until help arrives through the development of a number of skills.

Founded in 1966, the ISR organization has saved countless lives since their inception. Infant swim lessons take a more individual approach than traditional swim lessons and may differ depending on the developmental stage, age, and learning style of each child, as well as their history with water and possible traumatic events. These lessons can cover everything from educating infants and toddlers in pool safety and prevention to training them with lifesaving, basic swimming skills.

ISR swim lessons are designed to work with the shorter attention spans of infants and young children, keeping them brief and working toward small, achievable goals such as floating, flipping over onto the back, and finding the pool’s edge or stairs. Our experienced instructors ensure that both the child and caregiver are engaged and safe throughout the lessons, never pushing either beyond comfortable boundaries.

The proven techniques taught during infant survival swim lessons can help a child stay alive if they ever fall into a body of water accidentally. Start your infant or toddler in ISR swim lessons as early as 6 months old and you’ll be amazed at how quickly they learn to float and swim.
